Adult Detention Release Paths
The Chaves County Adult Detention Facility is the county authority for many local arrests, pretrial stays, and locally imposed jail terms. Its release transaction should state how that one custody episode ended. Community release may follow bond, release on recognizance, time served, dismissal, or sentence completion. Yet physical departure from South Atkinson can also lead to electronic monitoring, county court compliance, the New Mexico Corrections Department, another county jail, federal custody, ICE custody, a hospital, or another lawful authority.
The coded disposition matters more than the fact that the person walked out of this building. A bond or recognizance release usually leaves the criminal case pending. Time served ends the ordered jail portion but may be followed by probation. A transfer means another custodian took control. A detainer is a request or legal hold that may cause one agency to hand a person directly to another. Calling every departure a community release erases those crucial differences.

Confirm Adult Detention Release
No official Chaves County jail roster, released filter, or recent-release archive was verified as of July 29, 2026. The county detention page is a facility and services page. It does not publish booking rows, release dates, release reasons, photographs, or a stated update clock. A county release check must therefore use a sequence of official channels rather than a single web result.

The official Chaves County Detention Center page is the right source for live contact information. It calls the department the Chaves County Detention Center while identifying the adult facility as one component. That naming difference should not be mistaken for two separate adult jails.
Request Adult Release Records
Chaves County accepts IPRA requests in person, by mail, fax, email, and through its online or downloadable form. Ask for existing records, not an explanation. Identify the person and booking episode, use a bounded date range, and request the booking/release sheet, custody-status transaction, actual departure date and time, coded disposition, receiving agency when recorded and public, and booking photograph if maintained and disclosable.
A written request must provide the requester’s name, address, and telephone number, plus enough detail to locate the record. The county says records will be available as soon as practicable and no later than 15 calendar days unless the request is burdensome. A delayed or denied response should include a written explanation. Posted county charges are $0.25 per printed or scanned page, $10 per CD or DVD, $20 per USB, $20 for a OneDrive link, and postage when shipped. Ask for an estimate before processing.
Chaves Release and Supervision
Chaves County Detention also lists Court Services and Offender Supervision among its programs. That local office manages misdemeanor and DWI compliance, electronic monitoring, and community service. A person can leave secure adult detention and still face a court order, reporting duty, bracelet requirement, or service obligation. This status is neither continued jail custody nor an unrestricted end to the case.
Use the case docket to identify the order, then contact the named program for current lawful confirmation. NMCD probation and parole is a different state system that often handles felony supervision. The county program should not be searched through the state prison locator unless the person also has an NMCD record. This split is a key Chaves County detail because both supervision tracks can follow physical release.
Two Chaves Release Systems
Chaves County contains both the county detention complex in Roswell and Roswell Correctional Center, a state prison near Hagerman that opened in 1978. The shared geography can mislead a search. An adult arrested in Roswell and bonded from the South Atkinson jail belongs in county detention, VINE, and court records. A sentenced state prisoner leaving RCC belongs in the NMCD offender, parole, and discharge system.
The agency that held the person creates the release record. Chaves County cannot interpret a state prison sentence, and NMCD expressly says its search has no jurisdiction over county or city detention facilities. Start with the custody episode, not just the person’s name. If the county disposition says transfer to NMCD, continue the search in the state system rather than treating the county exit as community release.

Adult Release Evidence
The best Chaves County confirmation is a consistent set of records. Preserve the detention release transaction, the VINE event when available, and the court order or disposition. Each source has a narrow role. The jail record proves when county custody ended. The docket shows why a judge authorized release or where a sentence led. VINE can mark a reported change close to the event.
A no-result is weak evidence. There is no county public roster to search. VINE feeds can be unavailable or tied to a prior custodian. Court cases may be protected, expunged, municipal, old, or indexed under another case number. Ask for a correction when an official release field conflicts with another source, and keep the original response. Do not fill a gap by guessing the release hour, exit door, property process, transport plan, or county good-time formula. None was verified in the research.
Chaves County also houses some detainees for other counties or municipalities. Someone leaving the local building may return to the originating government. The receiving-agency field or coded disposition is therefore essential. Physical departure alone does not answer where the person went.
