Chaves County Release Records
A release record documents the end of one custody episode. At the Chaves County Detention Center, departure may mean bond, recognizance, time served, sentence completion, dismissal, electronic monitoring, or transfer. Those events are not interchangeable. A person sent to the New Mexico Corrections Department, another jail, a federal authority, or ICE has left county custody but has not entered the community.
The creating agency is the key. County detention holds the booking and release transaction. A court file can explain the legal authority, such as a bond order or dismissal, but it may not show the exact time staff carried out the order. NMCD records cover state prisoners and people under state probation or parole. Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE systems each cover their own custody. A reliable finding names both the custodian and the kind of departure.
Chaves County Release Types
The release code or destination field gives a bare date its meaning. Bond and recognizance end pretrial confinement while the case usually continues. Time served or sentence completion ends the custodial part of a sentence, though probation may follow. Parole ends prison confinement under conditions. A discharge generally marks completion of the relevant correctional obligation. Transfer and detainer pickup mean another authority assumes custody.
| Release type | What it means | Where to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | County pretrial custody ended under court conditions | County release sheet and court docket |
| Time served or sentence complete | The local custodial term ended | Release transaction, judgment, and any supervision order |
| Parole | State prison custody ended under supervision | NMCD offender search and Probation and Parole |
| Discharge | The stated correctional obligation ended | NMCD record or certificate and sentencing docket |
| Electronic monitoring | Secure detention ended, but a court program continues | Chaves County Court Services and court order |
| Transfer or detainer | Another custodian took control | The named receiving agency |
- Parole
- Community release from prison under board conditions and state supervision.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision that may follow jail, prison, or no prison term.
- Discharge
- Completion of the correctional duty identified by the record.
- Detainer
- A request or hold that can send a person to another authority at departure.
Chaves County Release Record Fields
The most useful county record is a booking and release sheet or custody-history extract. Ask for the complete transaction tied to one booking episode. A name and date alone can merge people or hide a transfer. Some details may be redacted because of juvenile confidentiality, medical or victim privacy, security, an active inquiry, or a sealing order.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name and identifiers | Connect the event to the correct person |
| Booking number and date | Tie the release to one county custody episode |
| Releasing facility | Name the custodian whose control ended |
| Release date and time | Record when that agency executed the departure |
| Type or coded disposition | Distinguish bond, completion, transfer, or another event |
| Authority or order number | Link the custody action to its legal basis |
| Destination or receiving agency | Show whether another custodian took control |
| Hold or detainer | Identify a bar to community release |
| Booking photograph | Connect an agency image to the specified booking, if disclosable |
A county jail record is not an NMCD discharge record. NMCD policy uses a separate release checklist with an NMCD number, facility, “Projected Release Date,” judgment audit, credit and deduction checks, detainers, parole term, notices, and routes of parole, discharge, or discharge to probation. The projected field is a plan, not proof that release occurred.
Request Chaves County Release Records
Chaves County accepts Inspection of Public Records Act requests in person, by mail, email, fax, an online form, or a downloadable form. The custodian is at Chaves County, #1 St. Mary’s Place, Roswell, NM 88203. Email goes to IPRA@chavescounty.gov, and the fax number is (575) 624-6659. A written request should seek existing records, not ask the custodian to research why someone left.
- Identify the person and booking episode with a bounded date range and known identifiers.
- Ask for the booking/release sheet, custody-event history, date and time, coded disposition, public receiving-agency field, and booking photo if maintained and disclosable.
- Give the requester name, address, and telephone number. State that electronic delivery and rolling production are preferred.
- Ask for an estimate before copies are made and request the cited legal basis for any withheld part.
The county IPRA page posts charges of $0.25 per printed or scanned page, $10 per CD or DVD, $20 per USB, $20 for a OneDrive link, plus postage. Payment is due before release of copies. The county says records are available as soon as practicable and no later than 15 calendar days unless a burdensome request requires a written timing explanation.
Retention of a government record does not guarantee online display. No public Chaves County roster archive or retention period was found, so an older record should be tested with a precise request.
Note: Ask for an electronic copy and a cost estimate before processing because Chaves County lists separate media and delivery charges.
Expunged Chaves County Release Records
New Mexico’s Criminal Record Expungement Act can change access to qualifying court and agency records. The New Mexico Courts expungement page separates forms for identity theft, release without conviction, and qualifying conviction cases. It also describes a distinct automatic cannabis process. Eligibility, waiting periods, notice, and exclusions depend on the case.
A later no-result is not proof that the arrest or custody event never occurred. It may reflect a valid expungement, restricted juvenile data, a protected case, or an interface limit. Do not use a cached copy to evade a court order. The filing court is the right source for the current public status, while the agency that created an incorrect release field handles correction of that field.
The manifest includes a successful image of the official New Mexico Courts expungement source.
The court source shows why public visibility can change even when an agency once created a booking or release record.
Find Chaves County Released Inmates
Start with the custody episode, not a broad name search. A local arrest with no state-prison history points to Chaves County Detention. A sentence served at Roswell Correctional Center points to NMCD. Federal confinement points to BOP, while immigration custody points to ICE. Each system proves only departure from its own control.
- Call Chaves County Detention at (575) 624-6517 during posted administrative hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ask whether the person remains there and whether a public status can distinguish release from transfer.
- Check New Mexico VINE for a custody event and note the contributing agency, event type, and time. If unavailable, call (877) 551-8463 and press zero.
- Search the correct New Mexico court case for the release order, bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, or commitment that explains the legal basis.
- Use NMCD with “Include Inactive” only when state prison or state supervision is relevant. Confirm movement with the institution or Probation and Parole.
- Use BOP or ICE only for the matching federal custodian, then request the county release transaction when documentary proof is needed.
For a named local person, the full search is anchored in the county record. The Chaves County 24-Hour Releases page explains why there is no county-published same-day list and how to build a verified time-bounded result without inventing one.
NMCD Chaves County Release Search
The New Mexico Corrections Department offender search covers state prisoners plus NMCD probation and parole. It excludes county and city detention. Searching it for a person who merely bonded out of the South Atkinson jail can therefore produce a misleading no-result.
| Search field | Use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Find candidate state records | Check spelling variants |
| First Name | Narrow candidates | Identity still needs comparison |
| Offender Number | Find a known NMCD record | Not a county booking number |
| Age range | Reduce same-name results | Does not replace identity checks |
| Offender Status | Choose Active, Include Inactive, or Absconder Only | Use Include Inactive for former records |
Adult Prison Division data updates nightly, and NMCD says to allow 24 hours. Probation and parole information is described as real time. Movement can still make a display incomplete, and a vanished record can be a technical issue. Read the detail label exactly. Do not turn a projected, tentative, or parole-eligibility date into an actual release.
The captured NMCD search application shows the official fields used to separate active from inactive state records.
This state search applies to NMCD custody and supervision, not to a county-only jail episode.
Chaves County Release Court Search
Chaves County cases can appear in District Court, Magistrate Court, or Roswell Municipal Court. Use New Mexico Courts Case Lookup with the Judiciary court finder to identify the right court and case number. Then inspect the register of actions for bond terms, release conditions, dismissal, judgment and sentence, probation, commitment, amended sentence, or closure.
A docket proves legal action, not the exact instant jail staff carried it out. Another hold or transport step can delay or redirect departure. Pair the docket with VINE or the county booking/release sheet. Case Lookup also omits or limits juvenile, protection-order, much municipal, some older, sealed, and expunged material, so a blank result has narrow meaning.
The manifest’s successful Case Lookup capture represents the statewide portal used to connect a Chaves County custody change with its court authority.
The court timeline answers why a release was authorized, while the detention transaction answers when county custody ended.
Chaves County Release Supervision
Chaves County Detention includes Court Services and Offender Supervision for misdemeanor and DWI compliance, electronic monitoring, and community service. This creates a local status between secure detention and release without controls. A person may be out of the adult jail yet remain subject to a county court order.
That program is separate from NMCD felony probation and parole. Chaves County is within NMCD Region IV, and the live regional page lists Roswell District Office 5A. The court judgment identifies whether probation was ordered. NMCD public data and the responsible office can then verify state supervision within disclosure limits. Parole proves prison custody ended, but it does not mean the sentence fully discharged.
Definitions, the regional office, and the three-layer verification process appear on the Post-Release Supervision page.
Correct Chaves County Release Records
Send a suspected error to the agency that created it. Chaves County Detention handles county booking and release fields. The filing court clerk handles docket and judgment errors. NMCD handles state custody or supervision fields. For a mistaken VINE event, call the operator line and preserve the notice. Supply the disputed record and a reliable conflicting source rather than replacing the agency entry with an inference.
A booking photograph is not identification. Someone who needs replacement identification after release should check the New Mexico MVD identification-card requirements. Those live requirements can change, so confirm the current documents and process before travel.
Note: Preserve the original response, exact field, date, and agency when asking the record creator to review an apparent error.
Chaves County Release Pickup Times
Chaves County publishes administrative office hours, but it does not publish release-processing hours, a discharge door, family waiting rules, or weekend and holiday procedures. The posted 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule is not proof that all releases occur in that window. Call detention about the specific episode before driving to the facility.
Do not gather at an assumed gate. Ask the facility where a lawful pickup can wait and whether the person is leaving for the community or being transported. A transfer to another county, NMCD, USMS, or ICE can look like a release from the first custodian while the person remains confined.
Travel After Chaves County Release
The adult detention facility is at 3701 S. Atkinson in Roswell. Local transit information is maintained separately by the City of Roswell. Check the live Pecos Valley Transit information for current routes, on-demand options, stops, and hours. The research found no official county gate-money or transport program.
Confirm a safe pickup point with detention rather than inferring one from a map or public office entrance. A planned ride should also account for release processing that may not match office hours. If another agency receives the person, transportation must be coordinated with that custodian instead.
Two Chaves County Release Systems
Chaves County contains both a county detention complex and Roswell Correctional Center, an NMCD Level 1 and 2 state prison near Hagerman that opened in 1978. The institutions create different records. A Roswell arrest followed by bond belongs in county, court, and VINE channels. A person leaving an NMCD term at RCC belongs in NMCD and parole records.
| Status | Best source | What it can establish |
|---|---|---|
| Held at county jail | Chaves County Detention | Present county custody, within public limits |
| Left county jail | County release transaction | Time, code, and possible destination |
| State prison or state supervision | NMCD search and office | State location, status, or supervision |
| Federal prison release | BOP locator | Departure from BOP custody |
| ICE custody or recent ICE release | ICE ODLS and ERO | ICE-specific status within system limits |
The custody universe controls the search. County departure proof comes from the county transaction, while RCC parole or discharge remains an NMCD matter.
Federal Chaves County Release Records
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. Search by a supported federal number or by name and filters. A past release date with “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” confirms departure from BOP only. It does not rule out another custodian or federal supervised release. A future date is projected and can change.
The successful manifest capture comes from the official BOP locator.
The locator is relevant only when federal Bureau of Prisons custody exists; no BOP prison was identified in Chaves County.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator System searches current adult ICE custody and, under ICE attorney guidance, people released within the last 60 days. Search by the exact nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or by full name, date of birth, and country. A no-result is not proof of release. No official evidence showed that Chaves County Detention is an ICE detention facility, so do not infer an ICE relationship without a case-specific record.
Chaves County Release Facilities
The seven mapped pages separate secure custody, juvenile confidentiality, community supervision, state prison, and nonlocal federal systems. Each destination below uses its own evidence path.
- Chaves County Adult Detention Facility: county detention, VINE, court, and county IPRA.
- Chaves County Juvenile Detention Facility: authorized juvenile court or agency channels, subject to confidentiality.
- Roswell Correctional Center: NMCD prison, transfer, parole, and discharge records.
- Chaves County Court Services and Offender Supervision: local court compliance and electronic monitoring.
- NMCD Probation and Parole, Roswell-area office: state community supervision.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system: federal custody and past federal release records.
- ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations system: immigration custody and limited recent-release visibility.
Always continue to the receiving system when a record says transfer. The first agency’s departure code answers only whether that custody episode ended.
